In the fall semester of my senior year I struggled between choosing three universities to attend for the fall of 2011: Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University (TCU) , and Baylor University. Each three of those universities had an amazing business school that I was attracted to. More importantly, they all were all highly ranked. I had attended the TCU and Baylor campuses on multiple occasions and I have loved the atmosphere of each one. Both universities had polite students and incredible staff. TCU's location was close to home which made the university a favorable choice. Texas A&M University initially was my "backup school" in case my family could not afford to attend either TCU or Baylor. I have never been to College Station, Texas before so I had very little knowledge about Texas A&M's culture. I have seen multiple pictures of it's football stadium during game-days, but that was the extend to what I have seen. I researched Mays Business School and was pleased to see the incredible amount of opportunities they had for their students: TRIP (finance), study-abroad programs and multiple student-led organizations. I wanted to be a business major, but I didn't know at the time that accounting was where I would place myself in. I applied to Texas A&M University on September 1 and in late October, I received my acceptance letter.
I took my first trip to Texas A&M in late November to receive a tour of Mays Business School. When my parents and I walked into the main lobby of the Wehner Building, my eyes were glued on how beautiful the white marble stood out. I saw students walking around carrying massive books and I thought to myself that they must have had their entire lives planned out. A kind-looking Aggie came up to the tour group I was with and introduced himself as Jeff. Jeff guided us through the entire building and explained that each major had its own set of special programs that were all highly ranked. It was the first time that I heard somebody mention the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA Progam). It struck me as pretty neat that the PPA program could earn me a bachelor and masters degree simultaneously in five years and become eligible to sit for the CPA exam on my last semester. Jeff talked very highly of the program and that sparked my interest into pursuing accounting as my major. I thought that I would lean towards finance, but I became glad I chose accounting.
Two and half years later, I earned acceptance into the PPA program. Throughout my time at Mays Business School, I have met incredible people that became my closest friends. I never thought that choosing accounting would have brought out so many opportunities. Along side with my major, I have been fortunate to have found myself accepting an internship position in Dallas for the spring semester of my senior year. I have very blessed at all that Texas A&M has been able to offer me.
